The UQ Rural Clinic is a training facility for the University of Queensland. This site features learning resources and facilities that support and facilitate face-to-face, bedside and online learning.
A particular challenge of this project was that the sites foundations where founded in uncontrolled fill. A series of 2.5m deep concrete piers to support the buildings footing were constructed to ensure the stability of the building.
Above ground this 380 sqm building is bold in design, with its black and white colour theme trimmed with a natural hardwood timber feature. The façade is a combination of brick veneer external cladding and rendered hardietex.
Internally, the project scope required two lecture rooms with large projection screens and audience cameras for student participation, mock ward and critical care rooms and administration area.
A key energy saving feature of the building fit out was the ceiling lighting controlled by volumetric sensors that sense if there is no presence in the room and turn off and then turn on again when someone re enters the room.
