Description

Metcalfe Constructions were engaged as Construction Mangers to facilitate the fast track of the new Dimmey’s Store in Maryborough.

Prior to construction a significant building had to be stripped and demolished to clear the area for the new construction. Care was observed where the new building abutted the existing and surrounding buildings one of which is heritage listed.

Being locked on three sides, on a main street in town and with the footprint of the new building encompassing the entire site, the project provided a significant challenge in terms of site logistics. Access to facilitate construction was extremely tight. Ground conditions were extremely poor due to the soil being highly reactive and unstable. Temporary foundations were placed to accommodate heavy vehicle and crane access to the site.

The Metcalfe Constructions team also had to overcome major traffic management issues due to the site being in the CBD and only one access point, some work was carried out in the evening to limit disruptions to the surrounding business area.

Construction consisted of using tilt-up panels with concrete slab on ground with structural steel roof. Internally, the project scope required completion of fit out of a mezzanine level to accommodate offices and a lunchroom.

Reinstatement of adjoining car parks, footpaths and driveways were also completed. The project was completed ahead of schedule.
